Two of the most popular networking brands in South Africa, but very different approaches. Here’s an honest comparison – no fluff.
The short answer
TP-Link – Best for most people. Affordable, easy to set up, decent performance, available everywhere. Buy it, plug it in, it works.
UniFi (Ubiquiti) – Best for people who want control, scalability, and professional-grade equipment. Steeper learning curve, but once it’s set up, it’s rock solid.

The honest truth
For 80% of South African homes and small businesses, TP-Link is the right choice. It’s affordable, reliable, and easy to manage. You don’t need a UniFi Dream Machine to run a 4-camera, 10-device home network.
For the 20% who care about network visibility, scalability, and integration, UniFi is worth the premium. If you want to see bandwidth usage per device, set up VLANs for IoT separation, and manage cameras from the same dashboard – UniFi is for you.
